Exhibitions Indian Summer
An exhibition of the artist book project "Indian Summer" by Ronnie Forbes, senior lecturer in fine art, opened at the Royal Over-Seas League Gallery in London on 22 November 2000 and continues until 12 January 2001. The exhibition includes a suite of four related prints and drawings and photographs from which the printed images were made. The Indian Summer book consists of four sets of six images. The inspiration was the ancient Hindu fable, retold in many cultures, of the Six Blind Men and the Elephant. The other sets of images explore signing for the deaf, the jumbo-jet aircraft, and the six senses. There has been a great deal of interest in the work and exhibitions will travel to the British Council gallery in New Delhi, as well as galleries in Hobart, Tasmania and Edinburgh during 2001. Time lapse for Masters
The Masters Exhibition this year includes work by Eve Blackwood who has been nominated for a BAFTA new talents award (see Digest). 'Without you', a short film of five minutes was inspired by a poem written by Liverpool poet Adrian Henry. Thirty seven years elapsed between the penning of the poem and the shooting of the film. Eve explained that because of the time lapse 'the film became the story of Henry's life rather than painting the scene of the poem'. Critics may say that a poem is indeed the poet's portrait, but however it was inspired, the BAFTA committee like its powerful images - go see if you agree. The Masters Exhibition is in the Cooper Gallery from 2-8 December. Players
Roderick Buchanan's first major solo exhibition "Players" is now open at DCA. The exhibition will bring together a substantial collection of work by Buchanan who uses images relating to sport and other urban pastimes to explore themes of identity and community. Buchanan captures these defining issues of participation and identification with the pleasure of sport using a variety of forms, from audio and video to photography and sculpture. Included is a short film by Roddy called "Out" which was made in Dundee and shows the descent of a single in-line skater through the off-ramp of an urban car park. The film will be shown before main feature presentations throughout the duration of the exhibition until 4 February in DCA's cinemas.![]()
