Dundee shortlisted for Times Higher Education Awards 2019

The University of Dundee has been shortlisted in two categories of this year’s Times Higher Education Awards, highlighting work in bringing V&A Dundee to reality and providing pioneering floating homes to withstand natural disasters.

The Times Higher Awards, now in their 15th year and often referred to as the `Oscars of higher education’, shine a spotlight on the exceptional achievements of individuals, teams and institutions working in the higher education sector.

Dundee is shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community, jointly with Abertay University, for both universities’ roles in helping bring V&A Dundee to fruition. The universities are both founding partners of V&A Dundee.

The `Dream Homes’ project of Nandan Mukherjee, Researcher in the School of Social Sciences, has been shortlisted in the Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences category.

Nandan has pioneered floating homes that allow families in developing countries to survive natural disasters while producing food, water, energy and sustainable livelihood options. His work has already received global recognition, winning the prestigious UN Risk Award.

Nandan said, “I am absolutely delighted with this nomination. This recognition helps us to raise awareness for our mission of developing safe homes for those impacted or living at risk of global change.”

Winners of the Times Higher Awards 2019 will be announced at a dinner and ceremony on Thursday 28 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

The shortlisting of both projects continues a run of recent awards success for the University, after being named Higher Educational Institution of the Year and collecting four further prizes at The Herald Higher Education Awards in June, collecting the Medicines for Malaria Venture Project of the Year, and being named Marketing Team of the Year at the Heist Awards.
